Prof. Shabina Nishat Omar is aat present Officer on Special Duty, Education Directorate, Dept. Of Higher
Education, Govt of WB. Prof Omar has nearly 25vyears of teaching experience in English Language and Literature
at the UG and PG levels. She is currently working as Professor and Head, Dept. of English in Acharya Jagadish
Chandra Bose College affiliated to University of Calcutta in Kolkata. She has previously worked for 22years as
Professor of English and Head, Department of English in Milli Al-Ameen College (for girls), affiliated to University
of Calcutta, out of which she spent years as Principal-in-Charge of that undergraduate college for women. She has
been an invited visiting faculty in several prestigious institutions of higher education in West Bengal.
She has been integrally involved with online teaching and digital content much before the world was afflicted
by the pandemic. In 2018 and 2019 she was invited as resource person in the first of its kind Online Refresher Course
under MHRD National Resource Centre in English Language Teaching and she prepared several modules for MOOCs
uploaded on SWAYAM in this pioneering effort in digital online educational training called ARPIT (Annual Refresher
Programme in Teaching) which was an initiative of MHRD, Government of India in the field of faculty development.
She has authored study material for English Language Skills (BEGLA) for IGNOU UG Courses. She is an invited
resource person for the first of its kind International Education Programme in English for foreign students enrolled
for postgraduate degrees through distance education in English under central universities under the E-Vidyabharati
Programme of the Govt. of India. In 2023 she received the Teaching Excellence Award for Global Educator in
English.
Shabina Omar is a change maker through her educational and social entrepreneurship activities. She believes
in being the change she wants to see. She mentors women across all levels of society to improve their level and
standard of living through her myriad initiatives and philanthropic efforts.
